Who is God revealing Himself to be in this passage? (Genesis 1)
God reveals Himself to be the almighty creator. He created the world out of nothing from the beginning. (Genesis 1:1). God is the creator because before He creates, there is nothing. He is almighty because by just speaking, He is able to make light appear out of darkness.
God reveals Himself to be someone who can speak and see. He speaks and things come into being. Light is formed, land produces vegetation, etc. (Genesis 1:3, 11) God saw all that He had made, and it was very good. This shows that God is able to see.
God reveals Himself to be a God of order. The plants He creates does not multiply randomly, but instead, they are created and multiplied according to their kinds. (Genesis 1:12). An apple tree will not produce an orange tree but will instead produce the seed of an apple tree. It is the same with the animals and the other living creatures. (Genesis 1:21) A goat will not give birth to a lamb, and a lion will not produce a tiger as its offspring. Everything is created in a neat and orderly manner.
God reveals Himself to be a God who likes to bless. He blesses the animals. (Genesis 1:22) Likewise, after He created man, He blesses us. (Genesis 1:28) God likes to bless.
God reveals Himself to be a God who distinguishes the value of men from animals. We are not like the animals but above them. The food God gives to us and them are different. For the animals, He gives only green plants for food. These plants don’t have seeds. (Genesis 1: 30) Yet for us, He gives seed-bearing plants and trees with fruits for food. (Genesis 1:29).
