Genesis 1 reflection

Genesis chapter 1 tells us that there is a God. Not only is there a God, He is the one who creates everything and makes us. (Genesis 1:1, 27) He creates us in His image, and wants us to subdue the earth and rules over all living creatures. (Genesis 1:28) Notice God uses the word, subdue the earth. Subdue means having to struggle to fight to conquer the earth. It is not something that is done without any efforts on our part. To subdue means having to fight, in order to conquer the world. God expects us to work to subdue the world. God also wants us to be fruitful and multiply in numbers. (Genesis 1:28) In other words, God expects us to have children. How can we be fruitful and multiply unless we have children. Yet, today, many of us are choosing not to have children because we consider them to be a burden. We sin when we are married and yet do not want children, because we disobey God's commandments to be fruitful and multiply. We need to see children as blessings and obey this com...

Who is God revealing Himself to be in this passage? (Genesis 2)

God reveals Himself to be a God who not only works, but also rests. After creating the world in six days, God rested from His works on the seventh day. (Genesis 2:2) Not only does He rest from His works, He also blesses the day He rested. (Genesis 2:3) God reveals Himself to be the giver of life. Adam did not become a living being until God breathed into his nostrils the breadth of life. (Genesis 2:7). We are alive only because God’s breadth is in us. We must always remember this and not take our lives for granted. God reveals Himself to be a God who wants to please us. He could have made the trees boring and dull and the fruits tasteless and not good for us. Yet, he actually made trees that are pleasing to the eyes and good for food. (Genesis 2:9) God reveals Himself to be our master and chooses to give responsibilities to us. He gave Adam a job– the job to work the garden of Eden and take care of it. (Genesis 2:15) He could have just created us and left us alone but instead, He entru...

Who is God revealing Himself to be in this passage? (Genesis 1)

God reveals Himself to be the almighty creator. He created the world out of nothing from the beginning. (Genesis 1:1). God is the creator because before He creates, there is nothing. He is almighty because by just speaking, He is able to make light appear out of darkness. God reveals Himself to be someone who can speak and see. He speaks and things come into being. Light is formed, land produces vegetation, etc. (Genesis 1:3, 11) God saw all that He had made, and it was very good. This shows that God is able to see. God reveals Himself to be a God of order. The plants He creates does not multiply randomly, but instead, they are created and multiplied according to their kinds. (Genesis 1:12). An apple tree will not produce an orange tree but will instead produce the seed of an apple tree. It is the same with the animals and the other living creatures. (Genesis 1:21) A goat will not give birth to a lamb, and a lion will not produce a tiger as its offspring. Everything is created in a nea...
